Subject: Lafayette Resevoir RIM Trail
From: John Bondon
Last Sunday's hike at Eagle Peak was a good one! Tough in spots, especially if you didn't bring the right shoes! Special thanks to Brian Farr for leading that one for us!
This Sunday we will be hiking at the Lafayette Resevoir once again. But this time we will be trying the Rim Trail, which is a dirt trail that loops around the resevoir. Expect a lot of up and down (rolling hills) type terrain, but generally a fairly moderate hike. This should only take us about 2 hours to finish, but to play it safe I would advise AGAINST parking at the Parking meters by the resevoir. They have a 2 hour time limit, and I'd hate to think what the potential parking fine could be if you got back to your car even a few minutes late .. yikes!
So my advice is either spend a few bucks and park in the main lot, or park along Mount Diablo Boulevard for free, and hike up the hill to our meeting place in the parking lot. Plan an extra 10 or 15 minutes for yourself if you want to park on Mount Diablo Blvd to allow yourself time to walk up to the main parking lot area.
We will be meeting at the North end of the parking lot at 10AM -- look for me in my Blue Volkswagen Jetta. We will then venture over to the kids playground area and begin our hike from there. We should return to the opposite side of the parking lot around the Noon hour.
I expect temperatures to be in the mid to upper 70s Sunday morning, so bring some water along for yourself and sun protection too.
Hope to see you Sunday!
