Subject:           Return to Black Diamond Mines, and hikes for 4th of July weekend
From:               John Bondon
Sorry this email is a bit tardy this week. I usually like to get these out by Wednesday night or Thursday to give you a "heads up" for the weekend. Right now I am in the middle of running two summer tennis leagues and planning for a Kick-Off event this weekend, so needless to say, I've been busy!

So I will not be able to hike this weekend, but our Fearless Leader has had sufficient time to get over that snake incident to lead another hike! Join Brian this Sunday back at the Black Diamond Mines in Antioch to explore the NORTONVILLE LOOP. The fun begins at 9AM!

Regarding last Sunday's hike at Lake Chabot, Adriene reports: " The hike went fine. It was a small group consisting of Beth, Robert, myself and no kids. We theorized that hiking was not a traditional fathers day activity. The weather was perfect and Beth and Robert are both good at conversation, so we had a long pleasant walk with good company. "

On Saturday morning, July 2nd, Bala will lead us on a kid friendly hike at Hunsaker Canyon in Lafayette. This is a location I didn't even know about, but sounds like a really nice spot.

July 4th falls on a Monday this year, and that morning I plan to lead a hike up to a Vietnam Memorial in Concord. Haven't quite figured out the logistics or proposed route yet, but more information will follow. This will be a regular hike like any other. I won't be making any speeches or conducting any special ceremony. Just thought it would be fun to visit a destination that ties in with the day. Hope you can make it. :)

Thanks to our fellow members, Brian, Adriene, and Bala for their willingness to lead some really nice hikes and introduce the rest of us to some nice new spots. :)

You'll find more details about this upcoming hike posted on the East Bay Casual Hiking website.

Happy Trails! :)
