Subject: March (Hiking) Madness!
From: John Bondon
Three new hikes have been posted for the month of March, beginning with a new location this Sunday. I call it "Ohlone Trail", but to be honest, Ohlone is just the start of the trail. (It is actually the back side of a location many should be familar with -- Lime Ridge Open Space.) I haven't decided what our actual route will be yet, but will figure it out tomorrow. Whatever path I select, expect it to be hilly terrain, but not too difficult, though if you decide you are game for more, the location does offer alternative paths with various levels of difficulty, for those so inclined.
Since we have had some fairly heavy rains recently, wear your old hiking shoes, and be prepared for muddy conditions. I expect most of the trail should be dried out by Sunday, but I do expect mud in spots. Hopefully not too much mud, though. :)
Note that this hike should be shorter than our last flat terrain hikes, so we have a slightly later start time of 10:30AM. Though distance wise the planned hike will be shorter, the terrain should make up for it, so you will still get your money's worth! Figure about 3-5 miles total distance. For those that wish to go further, detours are available. :)
The next two Sundays present hikes of increasing difficulty. The rainy season offers a perfect time to hike the Mount Diablo WaterFall Trail, so that is our chosen destination for next Sunday, March 13th, starting at 10AM. On March 20th, our Fearless Leader Brian returns to lead us on a Summit Hike to the very top of Mount Diablo, starting from the Clayton side! This is a more challenging hike, with very steep terrain. Block out a good 7 or 8 hours on your calendar for this one, though it IS possible to do it in about 6 hours. :) Starting time for the Summit hike will be 8AM.
You'll find more details about these upcoming hikes posted on the East Bay Casual Hiking website. Remember, RAIN CANCELS.
Last but not least, the new website is finally complete, but I have not had a chance to fully test it yet for bugs, so that will be my goal this weekend. I hope to have the entire wbesite converted over by early next week. So with this in mind, I will be making my changes late at night (between 10PM and 2AM Pacific). There may be periods over the next few days when the site will not be available during this timeframe. Any other hour of the day, it should be up, so if you experience problems, please let me know. :)
Happy Trails! :)
