One of the more common questions I receive, especially after sending out a weekly RSVP email like this one, is, How do I get to the hike?

Remember that these weekly emails are not meant to be the definitive source of ALL information regarding upcoming hikes. This email is simply meant to give you a heads up of what hikes are posted on the East Bay Casual Hiking website, so you can decide which, if any, might appeal to you. For those that interest you, then simply go to the hiking website and click on the Upcoming Hikes link, where you will find a listing of scheduled future hikes. From there simply click the name of the hike you are interested in to discover all the pertinent details about where the group will be meeting and how to get there.

Arranging CarPools

Another common question I receive is about arranging carpools for hikes. The website is not setup to help with carpools, but we do have another optional email list that might help those interested in organizing carpools. I call it the Member's Only Email List, and it is named that simply because you have to become a member of the list in order to send emails to it. You also have to specifically join this list. You are not automatically subscribed to it when you join this group or the Weekly RSVP Hiking email list. The Member's Only Email List is only for those who voluntarily want to be a part of it. Any topic of a non-commercial nature related to hiking is fair game on that list. Just don't start soliciting money (or anything that can be interpreted as asking for money, donations, etc) or you'll be deviating into what I consider to be more commercial speak in nature, which is against the rules of that email list. But asking for recommendations for a good pair of hiking boots would certainly qualify as an appropriate use of the Member's Only Email list. As would seeking or offering a carpool to a hike.

If you'd like to be a part of the Member's Only Email List, simply CHECK the box next to "Member's Only Email List" on the Modify My Settings page to join. But realize that THAT email list can get a sudden high volume of messages sent to it from time to time when a hot topic appeals to a large number of the members subscribed to it. If you don't relish the idea of receiving a lot of emails into your inbox, please DON'T join this email list.

Happy Trails,

John
