Andrew says of last Sunday's Pleasanton Ridge hike:
Howard, Kathy and my self led 25 of us on a cool but sunny day on Pleasanton Ridge. Trail Gail brought her dog Gordon and he was very good. It was very sunny in the Park, but we could look down at the dense fog in the Pleasanton valley. Jaime told me where there is an eagle nest in the park. I will check that out by myself because it was off trail. Next week is dry and I intend to take advantage of it.

Howard says of last Thursday's hike:
There were ten participants in our Thursday Dublin Hills exploratory out-and-back hike on the Calaveras Ridge Trail. We encountered rain during the latter half of the hike and had to slog through some nasty mud towards the end of the uphill ascent. There were some nice views of the local valleys at the beginning of the hike, but the increasing fog and clouds limited the vista during the rainy portions. The total GPS distance was 5 miles with an elevation gain of about 850 feet.

A Preview of our upcoming hikes, by the hike leader(s):

Howard says of the upcoming Briones, Bear Creek Staging Area hike on Thursday, January 20 at 10:00 AM: "A moderate loop hike in Briones Park. About 5 miles with an estimated elevation gain of 800 to 1000 feet. The listed parking and dog fees may not be collected during the week. Hike starts at 10 AM to allow the commute traffic to ease. ".

Iqbal says of the upcoming Lafayette Reservoir Rim Trail (Via Granada) hike on Sunday, January 23 at 9:30 AM: "This is a good workout hike. Ups and downs a plenty. While the Rim trail is 5 miles, it is 0.75 miles from Via Granada so the total mileage is 6.5.About moderate plus. Mostly sun but some shade. We hike up to the Rim from Via Granada and then turn left going clockwise around the Reservoir. Restrooms at the Dam where we will take a brief rest before returning to Via Granada. Please don't wait for us a the main gate. ".

Andrew says of the upcoming Del Valle hike on Sunday, January 23 at 10:00 AM: "These birds are huge. Much larger than a hawk. Weather should be dry and cool.".

You'll find more details about each of these upcoming hikes, including starting time and directions to the trailhead, posted on the East Bay Casual Hiking website. In the event of rain, please check with the hike leader as to whether the hike will proceed as planned.

Happy Trails! :)

John
