It's official. As of today there are 1900 members signed up for our email list! That's amazing growth considering just 5 years ago, before the website even existed, this group started out as a half a dozen people total in membership! You can read about our humble beginnings on my FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) page on the website .

Howard files this report of his hike from last Sunday:
" Thirty hikers and four dogs enjoyed our 6-mile loop hike last Sunday. It turned out to be ideal hiking weather, sunny and cool with a light breeze. Our rest stop at Borges Ranch provided some good socializing time where we shared hiking, camping and other interesting experiences. Thanks to Andrew for being the reliable "sweeper", ensuring that all returned safely. The Marshall Dr trailhead offers a variety of different hiking opportunities, and I am sure there will be more hikes scheduled from this trailhead. Including the one scheduled for next Saturday, Aug 23rd. "

A Preview of our upcoming hikes, by the hike leader(s):

DuBose says of the upcoming Shell Ridge, Marshall Drive entrance hike on Saturday, August 23 at 8:00 AM: "Dogs are allowed off leash. If it is hot, it will be under two hours, about 1 hour and 45 minutes. This for experienced hikers who like to maintain an aerobic pace. ".

Diane says of the upcoming Diane's Castle Rock Loop hike on Monday, September 1 at 8:30 AM: "Labor Day traditionally signals the end of summer. Lets celebrate the end of summer with a brisk hike at Castle Rock Park.".

You'll find more details about each of these upcoming hikes, including starting time and directions to the trailhead, posted on the East Bay Casual Hiking website. In the event of rain, please check with the hike leader as to whether the hike will proceed as planned.

Happy Trails! :)
