Andrew filed this report of the Moraga Road to Reservoir Rim Trail hike:
"We had 26 hikers at our peak. Some turned back but told us. One doggie (Henry). We took two 10+ minutes breaks. It made a difference. The hike was great. We all stayed closely together. I hope to build on this hike with more doable hikes into the future. I'm done with the tough hikes for now. "
Evan reports of last weekend's Redwood Regional Park hike:
" We took our time hiking through Redwood Regional Park enjoying the conversations as much as the scenery. After an invigorating 900 foot climb to Redwood Bowl, we spent an hour relaxing at the picnic benches. Everyone enjoyed the Newman's chocolate cookies I brought! We then hiked slowly through the rest of the park. The last 3 miles in the redwood forest were especially memorable. Our muscles were getting a little sore, but the beauty of the forest kept our spirits high. We all had a wonderful time. Special thanks to Joyce for being sweep to our group. "
Sorry I missed not only the hike, but the cookies too! ;) This weekend offers two hikes to choose from, one near, the other far. Our King's Canyon away hiking/camping trip is Sunday, for anyone interested in joining me for the Panther Gap & Mehrten Meadow hike on Sunday, June 22 at 10:00 AM. Did you know that the 8,200-foot deep chasm of Kings Canyon is the deepest canyon in North America? That's right. It's actually 2000 feet deeper than the Grand Canyon! If you do plan to come, please print, fill out, and bring with you the Emergency Form. Filling this out and turning it in to me is completely optional and not required to participate in the hike, but I strongly encourage anyone attending to do so. Past experience has proven it quite useful.

for those preferring to stick a little closer to home this weekend, check out Andrew's hike at one of my favorite spots -- Inspiration Point. Andrew says of the upcoming Nimitz Way (Paved) Trail - Inspiration Point hike on Sunday, June 22 at 9:00 AM: "I will be hungry after the hike. Pizza by the slice in Orinda Village?".

Member's Only Email Lists

Finally a word about the Member's Only Email list. Though I haven't had the time to fully read all the details regarding the most recent postings, my initial reaction, however, is they either violate our rule about promoting fee based hiking opportunities, or are in a grey area at best. So to play it safe I have temporarily disabled both email lists from further postings for now. I simply don't have the time right now to deal with the flood of emails and the subsequent unsubscribe requests that past experience has proven time and again will result

Remember that these lists exist to allow you to exchange questions and ideas with other members related to hiking, especially topics related to hiking in the local area. Such emails should not, however, be used to promote anything that charges a fee or asks for monetary compensation, regardless of the intention. If such postings were allowed, then the email list would turn into nothing more than another opportunity for spam, which would cause most of the membership to flee, ultimately rendering the list ineffective. Remember these email lists exist for your benefit. Please use it wisely and question every email before hitting the send button. If your email asks for money (or refers to a document or website that ultimately asks for money), then it is not considered appropriate.

Thanks for your cooperation and understanding.

As always, you'll find more details about each of our upcoming hikes, including starting time and directions to the trailhead, posted on the East Bay Casual Hiking website. In the event of rain, please check with the hike leader as to whether the hike will proceed as planned.

Happy Trails! :)

Happy Trails,
