Subject:           The Return of the Weekly RSVP Emails
From:               John Bondon
Did you miss me -- and my weekly emails? ;) If you've noticed I've been absent from your Inbox lately, it's because I've been out of town. Sorry for not mentioning that prior to my departure last month but I didn't think it would be appropriate to publicly post such information. But now I am back, and the weather this weekend promises to be fantastic for hiking!

Right about the time I left, Andrew led at hike last month at Lake Del Valle. Here is his report from that day:
We had 14 hikers for an 8:00 AM hike. Pretty good. Wasn't the best day for hiking. Cold, windy, drizzle, but no mud. We hiked 8 miles. 3 of the hikers turned back during the hike. No problem. I like the comaraderie of this group. We had fun. After the hike, 6 of us went to lunch, and after that, 4 of us went to a winery for tasting. We had a very gracious host (Judith).
Sounds like a lot of FUN! And despite not being able to send out emails to the Member's Only list nor posting to the website, Andrew continued in the tradition and led a hike this past Saturday as well:
We had 5 adults, 1 nine year old boy and 1 dog for our hike today from the south end of Pleasanton Ridge. Yes we started at 8:00 AM. It was a fun hike. 8.1 miles and at least 1,200' of elevation gain. The dog Ryan, jumped into every cattle pond she saw. The sunshine was brilliant, the trails were dry, you're with friends, what's not to like.
This weekend, we have a hike available for each day, but they start a bit on the early side: 8AM Saturday for Brushy Peak; 9AM Sunday for Mount Diablo. Andrew says of the upcoming Brushy Peak Preserve hike on Saturday, February 16 at 8:00 AM: "I cannot resist meeting a hike leader whose first name is Cat. I think she is also a chef.".

Helene says of the upcoming Mt. Olympia Summit/Bruce Lee Spring Trail Loop hike on Sunday, February 17 at 9:00 AM: "Join us for a gorgeous hike to Mount Diablo's Olympia Summit. We'll traverse just about every type of topography the mountain has to offer - craggy rocks, chapparal, shady woods, and the gently sloping meadows of Bruce Lee Trail.".

You'll find more details about each of these upcoming hikes, including starting time and directions to the trailhead, posted on the East Bay Casual Hiking website. In the event of rain, please check with the hike leader as to whether the hike will proceed as planned.

Happy Trails! :)

Happy Trails,

John
