Briones Saturday - Walnut Creek Sunday
Sorry for the late email notice about this weekend's hikes. It's been another crazy week!
Yes there are hikes on both Saturday AND Sunday this weekend. Thanks to Andrew
and Howard for being gracious and offering to lead again!
Andrew says of the upcoming Shell Ridge (Howe Homestead Park) hike in Walnut Creek:
"Brings snacks. I would like to explore the private gardens. Yes, I have a BIG veggie garden that is still producing.".
Bobbi also leads a hike this weekend (tomorrow!), at Briones.
bobbi says of the upcoming MOTT PEAK LOOP--Old Briones Road hike:
"This is a couple of hours of moderate hiking with the option of another 5 miles of a steeper nearby Lagoon trail for those who would like to get more exercise.".
Last weekend, Howard led us at Lime Ridge along with help from Helene and Andrew
being on hand to get us started. We had a big turnout -- 43 hikers total!
And beauftiful weather, as well as a great route planned out for us by Howard!
Andrew filed this report regarding his hike on Wednesday, November 28th:
We had 10 hikers today (plus Anna the doggie) at Livorna, including Joan who is visiting here from England. She, and the hike were delightful. She leads hikes in England on wednesdays and sundays that are comparable to ours. She likes our weather much better. She is visiting her relative, Derrick. She is an absolute gem. Can we have an EBCH England site? She is interested.
Lisa spotted a huge red tailed hawk today. At least a 3' wingspan. It floated right over us. Awesome. She also spotted an eagle nest sunday on our return from Las Trampas Peak. The pair were exchanging positions in the nest. I am so jealous. I wish I could have seen that.
Hmm... A sister UK trekking site? I'm game! Just might have to visit and check out some of the great trails over there as well! :)
Member Steve submitted the following pictures of a
giant "basketball sized" mushroom they spotted
on the trail from that hike to share with everyone.
Mike submitted this report about his ambitious, multi-trailhead hike last weekend:
We had great weather, the bay and ocean moderated the cool temps into the mid 60's,
perfect hiking weather. We watched some kayakers navigate the straits under the Al Zampa,
then drove across to the Marin Headlands and ate our lunches at the Pt. Bonita Lighthouse.
We saw several groups of SeaLions basking on the rocks below. On the Golden Gate Bridge,
we were startled to see a tour helicopter fly UNDER the bridge, evidently a regular thing
because it happened again about an hour later, same helicopter.
Sounds like my kind of helicopter ride! I'm going to have to add that to my list of "someday" to-dos!
Anyway, as always, you'll find more details about this upcoming hike posted on the
East Bay Casual Hiking website.
In the event of rain, please check with the hike leader as to whether the hike will proceed as planned.
Happy Trails! :)
