Subject:           Last Weekend's Score: Tennis 0 - Hiking 2!
From:               John Bondon
Last weekend turned out to be a better weekend to hike than to play tennis. Both my teams had matches cancelled due to the rain, but both hikes proceeded!

Mike reports of his Tomales Point hike last Sunday:
The weather was magnificent, blue skies everywhere with a cool breeze. The Elk were everywhere, we passed through at least 6 separate herds, each with a big buck complete with massive superstructure, and one small group of bachelors.

We had 12 hikers, although 3 from Casual Hikers RSVP'd yes and 2 RSVP'd maybe, only 1 showed up (Lisa), the other 11 were from the LBL group (there were 4 no-shows from LBL). After returning to Berkeley, 7 of us went out for a massive Chinese Dinner in Albany.
Diane filed this report from her Briones Reservoir Loop hike last weekend:
We had 9 hikers on a bright sunny morning. But with the rain, it did make the trails very slippery and muddy. But the reservoir is always a beautiful place to hike, so I'm glad we ventured out. I have to admit the hiking pole that I had was quite helpful with getting up hills in the sticky, slippery mud. We finished in just over 4 hours..and got back to the parking lot between 1:45-2:00 p.m.
Andrew attended the hike as well and reports:
I wish I had checked my rain gauge before I left this AM. It was 0.8" when I returned. Howard, myself, Laura and Terry wound up in the rear because we all had great difficulty with the mud after Bear Creek. We wasted too much time trying to remove it. We estimate 45 minutes to an hour. We did not finish until just after 3:00. We finished upbeat over the last mile, because it was paved. We also met a police officer who was checking for hiking permits. Yes, we were golden. He was friendly.

A Preview of some of our upcoming hikes, by the hike leader(s):

Andrew says of the upcoming Wall Point hike (Macedo Ranch) hike: "This hike is moderate, but will seem relatively easy after the tough hikes we have done the past 2 W/E's.".

Andrew says of the upcoming Ringtail Cat to Las Trampas peak hike: "Does anybody know what a Ringtail cat is. If you do, you win a prize.".

You'll find more details about these upcoming hikes posted on the East Bay Casual Hiking website.

Happy Trails! :)
