Subject:           King Canyon Hike and new trail opens in Pinole!
From:               John Bondon
Andrew has graciously offered to lead another hike this weekend, even after leading one with Howard yesterday. Hats off to both of them for their dedication -- what troopers! If you have a hike of your own you would like to lead, don't be shy -- submit it! Look for the "Lead A Hike" link on the Upcoming Hikes page on the website.

Before it slips my mind, want to let everyone know that a new trail will be opening up next month, and you are all invited to the dedication ceremony of the Pinole Watershed Trail, part of the Bay Area Ridge Trail. It all starts at 8:30AM on Saturday, November 3rd, with a guided 6 mile hike to the ridgeline taking place around 9:30am. Here's the official press release about it:

East Bay Municipal Utility District and the Bay Area Ridge Trail Council will host a celebration of 7.5 miles of new Ridge Trail in Contra Costa County, with hikes and horseback rides to the ridgeline overlooking Carquinez Strait. Well start with light breakfast (coffee, juice & bagels), hear about the watershed lands from EBMUD naturalists, and formally dedicate the trail with a ribbon cutting ceremony. No charge.
If you'd like to learn more about this event, visit ridgetrail.org or call (415) 561-2595.

A Preview of some of our upcoming hikes, by the hike leader(s):

Andrew says of the upcoming King Canyon hike: "Only one hill on this hike and it is not difficult. Lots of shade.".

Helene says of the upcoming Mitchell Canyon, Deer Flat, Back Creek Loop hike: "Join us for a beautiful hike around the Mitchell Canyon, Deer Flat, and Back Creek Trails. This is one of the best times of year at the Mountain. But just in case it's unseasonably warm, there will be plenty of shade. Make your own carpool arrangements with other members of the group, or friends.".

You'll find more details about these upcoming hikes posted on the East Bay Casual Hiking website. In case of RAIN check with the hike leader to determine if hike will proceed.

Happy Trails! :)

Happy Trails,

John
