Subject: Mount Diablo (Clayton) for Sunday
From: John Bondon
Special thanks to Andrew and Howard for leading last Sunday's Sinbad Canyon hike. Andrew reports, Our hike was terrific. Weather was perfect, and it went very smoothly. We had 6 Pleasanton residents in our group of 14. We also had my wife Maddie as a taxi driver to the trailhead if we needed her. We did not, but I appreciated the offer. At the 3 mile mark we enjoyed the views and snacked. Claude then led 5 other hikers back to the trailhead. The rest of us (8) then went down into Sinbad Canyon. This is a beautiful place. It's a few miles from the 580/680 interchange, and yet you are in a forest primeval. Similar to Diane's hike several weeks ago at Briones. I shortened the hike to 8 miles by taking a shortcut trail down the ridge. Nobody objected, and a few were all for it.
This Sunday Paul leads a hike at Mount Diablo in Clayton. Paul is estimating 700 ft elevation change and the distance covered at 6-7 miles. Mist and intermitant sprinkles will not cause me to cancel the hike. Heavy rain will.
As always, please refer to the East Bay Casual Hiking website for complete details and directions.
Happy Trails! :)
