Subject:           Hiking the Lafayette / Moraga and Orinda / Martinez areas
From:               John Bondon
Special thanks to Andrew and Howard for leading their 7.65 mile hike on Shell Ridge from the Howe Homestead Park last Sunday.

This week, Paul leads another weekday hike (Thursday), this time along the Lafayette / Moraga Trail. This is a paved trail and a pretty easy hike; start time is 6:15pm.

And on Sunday, Diane leads a hike at the Briones Reservoir from the Bear Creek Staging area, which is roughly located somewhere between the towns of Orinda and Martinez, though according to MapQuest, Martinez wins ownership rights. Either way this is a fabulous spot to hike -- so serene and removed from modern civilization, without the occasionaly airplane overhead, one could easily believe he/she is deep in the forest! Start time for the hike is 10AM. Note: a permit is required for this location, though usually a single permit can accomodate several people. If you are a EBMUD permit holder, please bring yours along! If you don't have one and plan to do this hike, I encourage you to purchase one in advance. You can learn more about how to obtain an EBMUD permit from the EBMUD website.

You'll find more details about each of these upcoming hikes posted on the East Bay Casual Hiking website. In the event of RAIN, please contact the hike leader for details as to whether the hike will proceed as planned.

Lastly, if YOU have a hike in mind you'd like to lead, please don't be shy -- let me know about it!

See you on the Trails! :)

Happy Trails,

John
