Hello All,

Well if you missed today's hike, you missed another beautiful one atop the Los Trampas Ridge, with spectacular views of not only the Walnut Creek, Danville, San Ramon, and Pleasanton areas to the East, but also San Jose, Oakland, and even San Francisco to the West and South! And don't let those intimidating hot weather reports deter you in the future -- today's hike turned out to be quite pleasant. A very nice cool breeze throughout the morning, and especially atop the ridge!

Next week we explore Redwood Regional Park. more info to follow about that shortly. In the meantime, a few other newsworthy items of interest to share with you:

1) I will be making some changes to the hiking website and email system in the coming weeks. The first thing you will notice is a change to our RSVP system. As it stands now, you can only RSVP for the next hiking event in the future. Once my new RSVP system is complete, you will be able to RSVP for multiple future hiking dates at one time. I hope to have the bugs worked out and the new system in place by the end of the month.

2) I will not be available for a hike the last Sunday of this month (June 27th), so if anyone is interested in leading a hike that day, let me know and I'll be happy to post the info on the website for you. The rules for leading a hike are pretty simple: #1 YOU pick the place; #2 YOU pick the time. :)

Just send me the name of the trail or locationwith a brief description about it, directions on how to get there, and any appropriate web links for more information. Also let me know if you're willing to have your phone number posted on the web site for questions/more info. (Posting your contact number is helpful, but not mandatory.)

3)Hiking member Ravi is planning a hiking trip to Half Dome on the 19th or 20th of this month. If anyone is interested in joining him, or maybe you'd be interested in future such outings, contact him direct at: [email protected].com

4) Hiking member Frances sent this link to share with everyone to ask for your support in helping to voice concerns over budget cuts of our local Park system. You can read the full story here:

5) Lastly, I plan to setup a new email discussion list for the group that will go online sometime around late summer or early fall. As it stands now, I and Kristy are the only members of this list who have access to generate emails to each of you. This is for your own protection to prevent spam. But at the same time, it would be nice to have a way for members to contact each other, for items like above, setting up carpools, or whatever else we deem relevant. This will be a MODERATED email list, and I will not make anyone a member of it by force. You will need to subscribe yourself to the list (once available) if you want to participate in either receiving or sending messages. Obviously a list like this works better with the more members who participate, but it will be each individual's choice whether or not to do so.

More information about this proposed email list, how it will work and how to be a part of it, will be described in more detail in the months ahead. Stay tuned!

Until then, Happy Trails!

:) John
