Subject: Beat The Heat Saturday, Embrace the Heat Sunday!
From: John Bondon
Thanks to June, Prachi, and Amy, for leading some great hikes last weekend, which included an evening hike up to Mission Peak. After hearing about this place for years, I finally got to experience it for myself and let me tell you, if you've never been there, you must add it to your to-do list. It's a short, but tough climb to the top, but at roughly 2500 ft, the view is AMAZING! :) We will definately have to do that one again...
This weekend promises to be a real scorcher, with temperatures expected to reach the triple digits here in Contra Costa County. To help you Beat the Heat, two out of area hikes are offered for your Saturday.
June offers a short 2-3 mile hike at Point Reye's Abbott's Lagoon. A carpool is offered for East Bay'ers from Orinda BART at 10AM. Rendevous at the Point Reyes Bear Valley Visitor's center at 11:30AM to begin the actual hike.
For those seeking something longer, Glenn will be leading a trek out to Angel Island, offering up to 8 miles, with specular views as well! A carpool meets from the Walnut Creek area at 10AM.
For your Sunday, join me for another hike at Inspiration Point. We'll be starting a little earlier -- 9AM-ish -- to try to beat the heat. A carpool is offered (from a different Walnut Creek location) at 8:30AM.
Please note that all times listed for each carpool is SHARP. To avoid delays due to traffic, expect the carpools to leave on time. For complete details about each hike, visit the East Bay Casual Hiking website. And while heavy RAIN usually CANCELS a hike; apparently EXTREMELY HOT weather does NOT! ;)
Happy Trails! :)
