Subject: Mother's Day and Moon Hike
From: John Bondon
Special thanks to Paul for leading a great hike this past Sunday at Castle Rock! I forgot how beautiful that trail can be, especially this time of year.
This weekend we are fortunate to have not just one, but 3 different hikes to choose from, and one is even an away hike to Sonoma County.
It all starts on Saturday evening, when Paul leads an evening "Moon hike" at Shell Ridge at sunset time. Should offer some spectacular scenery! Figure about 5 miles with 500 feet elevation gain. Bring your flashlights, good shoes and good attitudes for a last spring fling with the moon. Paul encourages "Anyone that has a moon story or would like to has moon mad information can share it on the hike."
On Sunday, Mother's Day, you have two hikes to choose from. I'll be leading my annual trek at Lafayette Reservoir, this time the Rim Trail for those who missed it the last time. And Diane has organized a carpool to a Sierra Club hike at Annadel State Park in the Sonoma Valley, which promises cards for moms and chocolate for everyone, courtesy of the leader. Expect 7 to 8 miles with an 800 foot elevation gain. Hike starts at 11AM; carpool meets at 8:30AM. Check the website for complete details.
As always, you'll find more details about each of these upcoming hikes, including directions to meeting location and starting times, posted on the East Bay Casual Hiking website.
Happy Trails! :)
