Event Notes:

A challenging 6 mile, 1,600-foot elevation gain, partial loop hike using Lafayette's Walter Costa Trail to enter Briones Regional Park. Route will be Pine Ln, Timothy Ln, Los Arabis Drive, Quail Ridge Rd, Connector Trail #1, Cambridge Drive, Connector Trail #2, Panorama Dr. Then entering Briones Regional Park making a clockwise loop up Mariposa Trail, Russell Peak Trail, stopping at the peak's picnic table to rest/snack/enjoy the view. Return will be back down Russell Peak Trail, the other section of Mariposa Trail, and retracing the route back down the Walter Costa Trail to the trailhead.

Lafayette's Walter Costa Trail is a mix of suburban streets and rural trails providing access to southwestern Briones Regional Park via Mariposa Trail.

Trailhead is Pine Ln Road, Lafayette. Street parking only. (Use 1001 Pine Ln for GPS) From Walnut Creek-- HWY 24 West, take the 3rd Lafayette Exit, Acalanes Rd/Upper Happy Valley Rd Exit, go right 1/2 mile on El Nido Ranch Road (do NOT circle back under HWY 24) Left on Pine Ln. From Oakland--HWY 24 East, take the first Lafayette Exit, Upper Happy Valley/Acalanes/Mt. Diablo Exit, continue straight onto Mt. Diablo Blvd., 2nd left onto El Nido Ranch Road, 1st right onto Pine Ln.
