Event Notes:

Sibley to Tilden Out-and-Back

A moderate 6.7 mile, 1700ft hike from EBRPD Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve to Tilden Regional Park. An optional 8 mile, 1800ft longer hike is available when we return to Sibley.

This out and back hike takes us on the Bay Area Ridge Trail through EBMUD Watershed to Tilden for a snack break near the Steam Trains. We return the same route until reaching Old Tunnel Road, where the longer hike will diverge from the shorter hike. The longer hikers will take a partial tour of Sibley on Quarry Road, Volcanic, and Round Top Trails back to the staging area.

Leader: Joel Schantz

Trail Notes:

This 2.6 mile loop hike is easy. Trails have minimal elevation changes and the preserve is small. Trailhead elevation is around 1400 feet. The featured hike climbs to about 1600 feet, then descends back to the trailhead -- total elevation change is about 465 feet. Dogs are permitted.

Trailhead Directions:

From eastbound Highway 24 in Alameda County, exit Claremont. Bear left at the bottom of the exit ramp, then drive about 1.5 miles on Claremont Avenue to the intersection with Ashby. Continue straight through the light on Claremont Avenue (Claremont Boulevard veers left). You should see the Claremont Hotel on the right, as well as a brown "parks" sign for Tilden and Sibley Parks. Continue on Claremont about 2 miles to the intersection with Grizzly Peak Boulevard. Turn right and drive about 2.4 miles to the intersection with Skyline Boulevard. Turn left onto Skyline, and almost immediately, after .1 mile, turn left into the preserve entrance.
