Event Notes:

Eagle View Loop

A Challenging 9 mile, 2200 ft hike around the upper ridge-lines of EBRPD Sunol Regional Wilderness, with a shorter 7 mile option.

This hike will again ascend to Flag Hill for invigorating warm up on the Flag Hill Trail, followed by a more sedate descent on Flag Hill Road and climb on Vista Grand Road. We will then circle the Canyon on the single-track Eagle View Trail, Cave Rocks Road, and Cerro Este Road where the longer hike will diverge from the shorter hike after a snack break.

The longer hike will continue East on the McCorkle Trail and descend on the Backpack Road to Camp Ohlone Road where we will then return back to the Parking lot on the single-track Canyon View Trail.

The shorter hike will descend on Cerro Este Road before taking McCorkle Trail West to Canyon View Trail back to the Parking Lot.

Let's meet by the toilets near the bridge across Alameda Creek.

Leader: Joel Schantz

Trail Notes:

This is a difficult hike. 10.5 miles and 2,200 feet of elevation gain. Shade to start but then it is all sun. It's similiar to hiking to Juniper Camp from Mitchell Canyon. Be prepared. Potties and water at the start. It's dog friendly, but I would be cautious. Fee for dogs $2. Hiking poles are a plus.

Trailhead Directions:

Exit 680 (either direction) at Calaveras Rd. From 680S you want to go under the frewway. From 680N you want to exit right. About 4 miles along Calaveras to Geary Rd. Take it into the Park. Watch out for bikers after 680. It is a winding road.

Parking Fee: $6
Other Fees: $2 Ohlone permit
