Event Notes:

Dan will lead a moderate two choice hike, either a 6 mile 1,200-foot or a 7.8 mile 1,700-foot elevation loop hike. Both versions begin at Mineral Springs picnic area in Tilden Park. Route is Mineral Springs Trail, Wildcat Gorge Trail, Selby Trail (with a short side trip to Berkeley's Atlas Path scenic overlook), continuing on the Selby Trail, Grizzly Peak Trail, stopping at Gillespie Camp to snack/rest. Then South Park Drive, down Vollmer Peak Trail. Short version will continue onto Quarry Trail and the horse path that goes through Anderson Equestrian Camp crossing Wildcat Canyon Road back to the parking area. Long version will add approximately a 1.8 mile loop by ascending Upper Big Springs Trail, west along the Bay Area Ridge Trail, Lower Big Springs Trail, Quarry Trail, and onto the horse path as described above. Porta-potty at trailhead and water/bathrooms at Gillespie Camp rest/snack area and also 1 mile into the hike at Island picnic area. Both versions begin at Mineral Springs picnic area in Tilden Park. From Highway 24, take the Orinda exit, keep right and follow the signs for Orinda Village/Richmond. Drive north on Camino Pablo for approximately 2.5 miles. At the traffic light turn left onto Wildcat Canyon Road. After 2.4 miles pass Inspiration Point and continue for about 0.5 mile. Mineral Springs parking area will be on the right.
