Mt Diablo - Green Ranch Loop

A Challenging post-Thanksgiving 8 mile, 2000 ft. loop hike in Mount Diablo State Park to explore the area burned during the Morgan Fire.

Starting from the Rock City Parking lot up Summit and Camp Force Trails to Curry Point. We then descend on Knobcone Point and Curry Canyon Roads before ascending on Frog Pond Road to the Southern edge of the burned area. Onto Green Ranch Road where we begin a 1300ft climb past the Green Ranch Site to the water tank near the Old Pioneer Horse Camp. From here we make the 2 mile descent back to the parking lot on the Summit, and Staircase Trails.

From I-680 southbound, take the El Cerro Blvd exit. Turn left onto El Cerro Blvd. After 0.9 miles stay straight to go onto Diablo Road. After 2.2 miles turn left onto Mt Diablo Scenic Blvd. Continue for 3.8 miles to South Gate Entrance Station. Then about 0.9 miles for the first left up to the Rock City Parking area. From I-680 northbound, take Diablo Road exit 39 in Danville. Turn right onto Diablo Road for 0.7 miles then turn right to stay on Diablo Road. After 2.2 miles turn left onto Mt Diablo Scenic Blvd. Continue for 3.8 miles to South Gate Entrance Station. Then about 0.9 miles for the first left up to the Rock City Parking area.
