Event Notes:

Mt Olympia from Regency Drive

A Challenging 8.5 mile/2600ft climb to Mt Olympia where we'll survey the fire damage from the Morgan fire.

The route will leave Regency Drive on Donner Canyon, Hetherrington, Bruce Lee Spring, and Wassermann Trails to Cardinet Oaks Rd where will turn onto Olympia Trail for an out-and-back trek to the peak. At Mount Olympia Rd, we'll take Zippe, and East Trails to the Peak for our snack break.

We will then return down Mount Olympia Rd, Olympia, and Cardinet Oaks Rd. Trails to Donner Canyon Road.

A shorter alternative(4.5 miles) can be had by forgoing the Mt Olympia out-and-back portion.

Note: This hike assumes these trails will be open. If not, the out-and-back portion may be supplemented with a excursion along the Falls and Middle Trails.

Leader: Joel Schantz

Trail Notes:

From Regency Gate, follow Donner Canyon to Cardinet Oaks Road. From there, climb Olympia Trail to Mt. Olympia Road and the Olympia Summit Trail to the summit. This is arguably the steepest trail in the park. The first part is gentle enough, but things get a lot more challenging when you get to the flanks of Mt. Olympia - the total rise occurs in a little over a mile. Return down from Mt. Olympia Trail to Cardinet Oaks Road, and then take the Wasserman Trail to Bruce Lee Spring Trail, crossing the spring back to Donner Canyon. Approximately 9 miles, with a 2900 foot elevation gain.
