A moderate 6-mile, 1550-foot elevation gain loop hike from the Alhambra Staging Area past Briones Peak. Route as described in the Trail Notes. And a short rest/snack stop at about the halfway point. Restroom and water at the staging area. Dogs welcome, off-leash OK on most of the trails. Driving directions from Dublin/San Ramon should take 680 and 24 Fwys to Pleasant Valley Road and then follow the 'From Berkley/Oakland' directions. Kiosk probably closed so there should not be a parking fee.

From the trailhead, we'll take the Alhambra Creek Trail and Spengler Trail (turning right) to Briones Crest Trail and turn left. This stretch rises to Briones Peak at 1,483 feet in just 2.5 miles! It is the highest point in the park and grants a panoramic view of the East Bay's rolling hillsides. The view includes Mount Diablo, the west Delta, Suisun Bay, and the Mothball Fleet. To complete the loop, we'll turn left on Spengler Trail, and then right on Diablo View Trail. Total distance is 8.16 miles or 3-5 hours.
