Event Notes:

A two-in-one hike in Shell Ridge. An easier, 6-mile, 1100-foot elevation gain loop hike to Castle Rock Park. And a 2-mile, 300-foot elevation gain add on from Castle Rock Park. Route to Castle Rock Park will be via Sugar Loaf - Shell Ridge, south Twin Ponds Loop, Borges Ranch, Briones  Mt. Diablo, Shell Ridge Loop, and Stage Rd. trails to Castle Rock Park. After a short rest/snack stop, the shorter hike will return via Stage Rd, Shell Ridge Loop, Briones  Mt. Diablo, Borges Ranch, and north Twin Ponds Loop trails to the trailhead. The longer hike will return over the hill to Bob Pond via the Shell Ridge Loop and Borges Ranch trails, then the Hanna Lane, Flat Top, Sulfer Creek, Ridge Top, Ginder Gap, Briones  Mt. Diablo and Sugar Loaf  Shell Ridge trails to the trailhead. No facilities at the trailhead, but full facilities at Castle Rock Park. Dog friendly, off-leash OK on the trails. NOTE: Trailhead is at the very end of Rockspring Pl. Nearby address is 2100 Rockspring Place, Walnut Creek, CA.

No facilities at trailhead. Water, restrooms, and covered picnic tables available at Borges Ranch/Bob Pond. Dog friendly, off-leash OK on trails.

From San Ramon, take Interstate 680 Northbound towards Walnut Creek, or from Oakland take Hwy 24 East towards Walnut Creek. Exit at Ygnacio Valley Road, turn RIGHT at the stoplight. After passing Civic Drive, turn RIGHT (south) onto Walnut BLVD. (Note: If you reach Bancroft/Walnut Avenue, you've gone too far! Make a U-Turn then LEFT at Walnut BLVD.) Continue on Walnut until almost the end and then left at Rockspring Place.

From Martinez, take Hwy 4 East to Interstate 680 South. Or from Antioch/Pittsburg take Hwy 4 West to 680 South. Exit at Treat Blvd, making a LEFT turn at the stoplight, then an immediate LEFT at the next stoplight onto Treat Blvd. Get in the far righthand lane and make a RIGHT turn at the 2nd stoplight onto Oak Road. Oak becomes North Civic Drive. Turn LEFT at Ygnacio Valley Road, then first RIGHT onto Walnut Blvd. (Note: If you reach Bancroft/Walnut Avenue, you've gone too far! Make a U-Turn then LEFT at Walnut BLVD.) Follow until almost the end then turn LEFT at Rockspring Place.

NOTE: Meet at TRAILHEAD AT MIDDLE (NOT END) OF ROCKSPRING PL. Trailhead address is 1880 Rockspring Pl, Walnut Creek.
