Event Notes:

The last ferry leaves Angel Island at 5 PM but I think we should shoot for the 4 PM one. That means if we catch the 10 AM ferry to Angel Island we will be hiking, eating and chatting from 10:30 to 4 or about 5 and 1/2 hours. My friend, Harold, will be leading this hike and knows a lot of the history of Angel Island.

Meet at the ferry dock/pier in Tiburon. It overlooks the water and is about 200 feet off the street in between Tiburon Blvd. and the bay.

Trail Notes:

Hike is approximately 8 miles, with an elevation increase of about 500 feet. It is not strenuous, but offers wonderful views of the whole Bay. Bring lunch, water, and money for parking and the ferry. Round-trip fare on the Tiburon-Angel Island Ferry includes the Angel Island State Park admission fee. Dogs are not allowed on the island at any time.

From the East Bay, start on Interstate 80 or 580. Take 580 West to the Richmond - San Rafael Bridge ($3 toll westbound, no toll eastbound). After crossing the bridge, follow the signs to Sir Francis Drake Blvd / 101 South. You will pass by the Larkspur ferry terminal on the left. Get on 101 South. After about 2 miles, take the Tiburon Blvd exit, turn left over the overpass, and follow Tiburon Blvd 4 miles into downtown Tiburon. Turn right on Main St. The ferry is located on the left at 21 Main St.

Look for sign for public parking and park your car and go back out to Tiburon Blvd. Ferry is across the street about a half block on the left. The ferry leaves for Angel Island every hour. If we want to start the hike around 10:00, plan about an hour from the East Bay (Walnut Creek) to get to the ferry.

Alternate Route via Jack London Square - An alternate departure is from Jack London Square in Oakland which transfers from Pier 41 to Angel Island arriving at 10:10am so the group coming from Tiburon will need to wait 10 minutes for those that may take this route. It departs from Angel Island at 3:10pm so the time on the Island will be cut down a little, probably to about 4 hours, but returns directly to Jack London Square. Parking is free with on-boat validation at the Washington St garage and the ferry ticket is $13.50.
