Castle Rock to Macedo Ranch Loop City: Walnut Creek Region: EastBay Park: Castle Rock Park Sunday, April 29, 2012 @ 9:30 AM Event Notes: Plan on arriving at Castle Rock Park at least 15 minutes early, as it may be necessary to park in the Orchard Staging area. The route to Macedo Ranch will be along Stage Rd (Pine Creek) to Dusty Rd, then over the hill to Macedo Ranch where we will have a short rest/snack stop. Return will be up the hill from Macedo Ranch to the Little Yosemite Trail and then down to Stage Rd to Castle Rock Park. Distance is about 7 miles with a 900-foot elevation gain. Hking poles would be helpful for the numerous crossings of Pine Creek. Water and restrooms at Castle Rock and Macedo Ranch. No dogs are allowed in Mt. Diablo State Park. Trailhead Directions: From 24 Fwy take the I-680 N exit on the LEFT toward SACRAMENTO/CONCORD and then exit at Ygnacio Valley Rd. From 680 Fwy exit at Ygnacio Valley Rd. Turn RIGHT onto Ygnacio Valley Rd and drive 2.2 miles to Walnut Ave. Turn RIGHT on Walnut Ave and drive 1.6 miles to the roundabout and take the first exit onto Oak Grove Rd. From Ygnacio Valley Rd westbound, turn LEFT onto Oak Grove Rd and drive for 1.1 miles to the roundabout. From the roundabout, Oak Grove Rd becomes Castle Rock Rd. Drive for 2.1 miles to the Park. Limited parking is available at the end of Castle Rock Rd but ther is additional parking at the Orchard Staging Area on the right before the end of the road.
