Event Notes:
We will hike up Indian Joe Creek to Caves rock trail and then connect to Cerro Este (This Hill), for the return to Little Yosemite. A nice 6 mile loop with about 1,500 ft of elevation. We will rest and play there before our 2 mile return to the parking lot. The elevation is not extreme. Dogs love this hike. You have to work, but you will enjoy it.

Trail Notes:

This 6 mile loop in the 6,858-acre wilderness starts by bridging and paralleling Alameda Creek. Total elevation gain is approximately 1200 feet. The hike will take you up through tranquil wooded canyons, past Indian Joe Cave Rocks, to grassy slopes covered with California poppies, lupine, and wild mustard in spring. The next landmark is Little Yosemite, with misting water cascading over boulders in the gorge, especially heavy in early spring and wet years. If you compare it to the real Yosemite, you'll be disappointed. But the falls are still picturesque and a wonderful discovery along your hike. You then traverse a ridge and head down a canyon with weathered green serpentine and sandstone outcrops, back through oak woodland, and finish by crossing the creek again.

Note: Dog fee: $2 per dog. Guide/service dogs free.

Trailhead Directions:

Take 680 South and exit at Calveras Road. Stay on Calveras, past the nursery and San Francisco Water Department area, to Geary Road. Turn left on Geary Road which leads directly to the park (Sign will read SUNOL - OHLONE REGIONAL PARK) There is plenty of parking.
