Event Notes:

Its about an Hour and 45 min.s to Deer Flat- of course that was when i was in shape. Its been over a year. It is about 45 minutes to the switchbacks -and then you bide your time -with a determined stride of course. Plenty of water -and a power bar or two. Mitchell Canyons parking lot -its a fee area -i guess its a few bucks -maybe 5.? -I own a '97 Ford Explorer

Trail Notes:

This is a beautiful 7 mile round trip hike on the north side of Mt. Diablo with a 1900 foot climb. Plan on spending 4 hours to complete this hike. We will take a break at Deer Flat before going back. Since we plan on hiking at an easy pace, it shouldn't be a problem if you are in good physical shape. The hike follows a smooth dirt road through a shady canyon and up a sunny mountain dotted with pine trees. The canyon views are spectacular. The first two miles are easy walking with an elevation gain of 400 feet, but feel almost flat. The final mile-and-a-half is all uphill, takes an hour, and gains 1500 feet.
