Event Notes:

A moderate, 5+-mile, partial loop hike with about a 1000-foot elevation gain to Castle Rock Park. Route will be Sugar Loaf - Shell Ridge, Twin Ponds, Twin Ponds Loop, Borges Ranch, Briones to Mt Diablo, Shell Loop, Stage Rd, and Castle Rock trails to Castle Rock Park. A short rest/snack stop and then return via Stage Rd, Shell Ridge Loop, Briones to Mt Diablo, Borges Ranch, and north Twin Ponds Loop trails to the trailhead. No facilities at the trailhead, but full facilities at Castle Rock Park. Dog friendly, off-leash OK on the trails. The trailhead is at very end of Rockspring Pl with a nearby address of 1880 Rockspring Pl, Walnut Creek.

Trail Notes:

Approximately a 5+ mile loop hike to Borges Ranch and return. About 750 feet of elevation gain. Rest room, water, and picnic tables at Borges Ranch for a snack/rest stop. It is dog friendly and Off leash is OK on trails.


Trailhead Directions:

From San Ramon, take Interstate 680 Northbound towards Walnut Creek, or from Oakland take Hwy 24 East towards Walnut Creek. Exit at Ygnacio Valley Road, turn RIGHT at the stoplight. After passing Civic Drive, turn RIGHT (south) onto Walnut BLVD. (Note: If you reach Bancroft/Walnut Avenue, you've gone too far! Make a U-Turn then LEFT at Walnut BLVD.) Continue on Walnut until almost the end and then left at Rockspring. From Martinez, take Hwy 4 East to Interstate 680 South. Or from Antioch/Pittsburg take Hwy 4 West to 680 South. Exit at Treat Blvd, making a LEFT turn at the stoplight, then an immediate LEFT at the next stoplight onto Treat Blvd. Get in the far righthand lane and make a RIGHT turn at the 2nd stoplight onto Oak Road. Oak becomes North Civic Drive. Turn LEFT at Ygnacio Valley Road, then first RIGHT onto Walnut Blvd. (Note: If you reach Bancroft/Walnut Avenue, you've gone too far! Make a U-Turn then LEFT at Walnut BLVD.) Follow until almost the end then turn LEFT at Rockspring Place. Park in the street.
