Trail Notes:

This is an easy trail, a "just do it" opportunity for the hesitant hiker. It's really more of a walk through the woods on a fire trail that begins with one hill and then stays relatively flat. The main challenge is crossing the creek four times but at this time of the year water is down to a trickle. It is dog friendly (leash required outside the trail gates). We will take the trail up to the state park gate, then turn around. Markers call this the "pine canyon nature trai." I did it with my 15 year old son and it took exactly one hour from parking lot and back; alone I've done it in about 40 mins.

Trailhead Directions:

From Walnut Creek/Pleasant Hill, take Treat Blvd or Ygnacio Valley exit from I680 turn right (south) on Oak Grove. Continue on Oak Grove; Oak Grove turns into Castle Rock Road; continue past North Gate High School, passing residences and horse stables. Castle Rock Road eventually dead ends into a parking lot of the EB regional park.

Parking Fee: none
