This is a beautiful 7 mile round trip hike on the north side of Mt. Diablo with a 1900 foot climb. Plan on spending 4 to 5 hours to complete this hike. Since we plan on hiking at a leisurely pace, it shouldn't be a problem if you are in good physical shape. The hike follows a smooth dirt road through a shady canyon and up a sunny mountain dotted with pine trees. The canyon views are spectacular. The first two miles are easy walking with an elevation gain of 400 feet. The final mile-and-a-half is steep climbing 1500 feet to Deer Flat.
