Lake Chabot (9 mile) Lake Loop

Lake Chabot (9 mile) Lake Loop
City: Castro Valley
Region: EastBay
Park: East Bay Regional Park District

Sunday, August 01, 2010 @ 9:00 AM

Event Notes:

This hike is 9 mile loop around the Lake. Most of it is at lake level, but there is a 2 mile section where we go into the hills. Much more shade than sun. We meet and start at the Marina and take the East Shore trail about 2 miles that takes us to a trail junction on our left(Honker Bay). Down a little ravine and across a wooden bridge to the Columbine trail on the left. Keep the Lake on your left and you are going in the correct direction. We eventually come to Bass Cove trail, cross the dam, and return via the West Shore trail to the Marina. Snacks, cold drinks and restrooms there. Parking in the lot is now $5 or $6. You can park in the street for free, but obey the signs.

Trail Notes:

This is approximately a 9 mile loop of moderate difficulty. The total elevation gain is 800 feet. It is not the elevation gain, but the total distance that gives this hike a moderate rating. The hike will combine 4 different trails - East Shore, Honker Bay, Columbine, Bass Cove, and West Shore trails, to encircle the tranquil 315-acre Lake Chabot. Dogs are permitted on this hike.
