Event Notes:

Today, we will be joined with ANDREW who is leading a group to Deer Flats and return. The rest of us will hike to the summit and back ,,,will be about 15 miles so figure on 6+ hours. It is mostly steep and strenuous after the first couple of miles in Mitchell canyon. This is an out/up and back hike on the same fire road & trial. Potty and water at the staging area. Rest Stops at deer flats(no water, no potty). Juniper campground (water, potty) and the summit (water, potty). Dogs are not allowed anywhere in Mnt Diablo State park. know your physical abilities Bring sun screen, $6 for parking and plenty of fluids ------------------------------------------- We will meet in the parking lot. Starts out easy, but soon changes to difficult. Shade early but then all sun. Bring your cameras for a group photo at the summit. Meet at Mitchell Canyon Staging Area. --------------------------------------------

Meet at Mitchell Canyon Staging area.

From Hwy 24 East and 680 North, take the Ygnacio Valley Road exit. At end of off ramp, turn right at the light onto Ygnacio Valley Road. Continue east for 15-20 minutes (approximately 7 miles) uphill into Concord. At Clayton Road (stoplight) turn RIGHT. At stoplight, turn right onto Mitchell Canyon Road. Follow to the end.

From Antioch/Pittsburg, follow Kirker Pass Road past Pavilion downhill into Concord. At Clayton Road (stoplight), turn LEFT. At stoplight, turn right onto Mitchell Canyon Road. Follow to the end.

Bring exact change of $6 for parking and use the self pay envelopes located at the entrance gate. No change is available. $5 for seniors 55+.
