Event Notes:

this will be a 7 mile loop hike with excellent views of the delta and east county. APPX 1100 ft total elevation gain makes this a moderate hike. Dogs are allowed little shade but is still cool this week.

Leader: MARS CAPEN

Trail Notes:

This is an 8 mile, 5 hour, difficult loop. Usually cold and muddy in winter and fall, this is a good summer hike.

From Hwy. 4 in Antioch, take Somersville Rd. exit and go south, staying in the left lane as you approach and pass Buchanan Rd. At 1.5 miles, follow Somersville Rd. as it continues straight, while the main road, now called James Donlon Blvd., bends sharply left. (There is a sign here that reads BLACK DIAMOND MINES REGIONAL PARK, and in about a mile for BLACK DIAMOND MINES REGIONAL PRESERVE; both refer to the same place.) At 2.6 miles from Hwy 4, you reach the entrance kiosk, park office, and emergency telephone; continue another .9 mile to a large parking area, right, with an overflow area, left.

Parking Fee: $5 when attended
Other Fees: $2 per dog
