Event Notes:

Yes, it's another Lake hike. Expect more. Mostly shade, but one mile in the sun. Mild ups and downs through the forest. One of my favorites that I am borrowing from a friend. Bring your EBMUD hiking permit or get one online. Only $10 for a year. I think it is EBMUD.org Phone is 510-287-0459. I know it is Mother's day. So bring her to this hike.

Trail Notes:

This is an out and back single trail hike about 6-7 miles round trip on the Bear Creek Trail. It could go longer if we go out through the gate rather than turn around. For distance purposes, to the gate and back is slightly more than 6 miles. Going beyond the gate only takes you another 1/2 mile to a 2nd gate that doesn't appear to have any access to...however, it does take you to the Bear Creek Staging area. So going to the first gate would yield a round trip distance of about 6 miles total, whereas continuing on to the second gate yields instead about 7 miles total.

Trailhead Directions:

From highway 24 westbound take the Orinda exit. Keep right at the fork, follow signs for Orinda Village/Richmond and merge onto Camino Pablo. Continue on Camino Pablo for 2.2 miles to Bear Creek Road.

From highway 24 eastbound take the exit toward Moraga. Turn left onto Camino Pablo and continue for 2.3 miles to Bear Creek Road.

At Bear Creek Road (traffic signal) turn right and drive 1.4 miles to the Briones Overlook staging area on the left. It is very near the top of a big hill. Easy to miss, so drive slow. Big parking lot, small entrance.

Other Fees: EBMUD permit required
