Event Notes:

This is hike #2 of our journey to the Summit. The hikers that reached Deer Flat were more than halfway to the Summit. It is only 1.6 miles further to Juniper Camp. There is 900 feet of elevation gain from Deer Flat to Juniper. I know you all can do it. There are flush toilets and water at Juniper. We will rest for as long as you want. We will make a brief rest stop at Deer Flat. $6 parking fee at Mitchell, but also flush toilets and water.

Trail Notes:

This is a beautiful 11.4 mile round trip hike on the north side of Mt. Diablo. While it is not for fast hikers because of the leisurely pace, it is not for beginning hikers either because of the 2400 foot elevation gain. Our route will take us up shady Mitchell Canyon to scenic Deer Flat. After a rest break, we will continue to the picnic tables at Juniper Flat for lunch. We will then return the way we came enjoying spectacular views on the way down. Plan on spending 6 hours for this hike. Also, be sure to bring at least 2 liters of water per person, hat, sun block, and food for snacks and lunch.
