Event Notes:
We will meet around the flag pole near the entrance kiosk. Dogs and children are welcome on this hike. Dogs are not allowed out on the pier but may be off leash in the wilderness areas of the park.

FEE: $3 per car $ 2 for dogs

There will be two car pools for this event East County hikers meet at the Hill Crest/Bart/Tri-Delta park & ride at Hill Crest and Hywy #4 at 8:15 #2 @ Johns work parking lot...201 North Civic Walnut Creek meet 8:30 Departing no later than 8:45 am.

Trail Notes:

This is a very easy and doable hike.. we will be covering about 5 1/2 miles as we explore the old GIANT and NITRO POWDER CO. work sites now known as Point Pinole one of the many in the East Bay Regional Park system.

this will be an easy 5.5 mile hike, no significant elevation gains. Children and dogs are welcome. Please note dogs are not allowed out on the pier but may be off leash when not in picnic areas. From the staging area we cross a bridge over the AM TRACKS and into the park, will follow along SAN PABLO BAY on the Bay View Trail. We will then spend time walking out on a 1/4 mile long pier off the point to enjoy the views take pictures and enjoy the coolness of being down on the water.

From the pier will return inland and enjoy a snack break in a nearby picnic area. Continue on the Owl Alley Trail to the Marsh Trail, We will be making a couple of round about loops along the north east shore of the park before returning to the staging area via the Cooks Point Trail.

there are water and facilities at the staging area, picnic area near the pier.

Trailhead Directions:

from Concord, west on hywy #4 (AKA John Muir PKWY)towards Richmond, take left lane exit for #80 southbound towards Oakland, San Fran.,south bound #80 to Richmond PKWY, exit from #80 rt lane (sign will say; To #580 San Rafael/Fitzgerald Drive) stay in rt lane..Right turn at the lite, this is Richmond PKWY., follow westerly and down hill,,,after crossing San Pablo Ave., take next rt. ATLAS ROAD, Follow winding down hill in newer residential area. After crossing RxR tracks turn left on GIANT ROAD, slow after passing West County Detention Center, make first rt after eucalyptus grove and enter park and go to kiosk. 5551 GIANT HIGHWAY

CarPool Directions to Civic Executive Center:

From Antioch/Pittsburg, take Hwy 4 West to Hwy 680 South. Take the North Main Street exit in Walnut Creek (exit #47). Bear SOUTHbound on North Main Street (right lane) (or rightt turn if you reach the stop light). You will cross back over the freeway. Get into the far left hand lane. Turn left onto Parkside Drive (stop light), then right turn onto North Civic Drive (2nd stoplight). Pass 7-11 on the right. Next driveway after the stoplight is 201 N Civic Drive. Turn right into parking lot.

From San Ramon/Dublin, take Hwy 680 North towards Walnut Creek. Or from Berkeley/Orinda, take Hwy 24 East towards Walnut Creek. Exit at Ygnacio Valley Road. At bottom of offramp (stoplight) turn right onto Ygnacio Valley Road, follow until you reach Civic Drive. Left at Civic. Drive about a block, turn left into the Civic Executive Center lot (3 story building).
