Event Notes:
This is a moderate hike up a big hill. Views are quite nice. Weather should be good. The trek up the hill is a single track trail. Bring fluids and be prepared for sun. Picnic tables at the parking lot. Bring snacks. No dogs allowed. The trail notes say this hike is 8+ miles. It's not. 5+ miles. All of us can do it.

Trail Notes:

Elevation at the top of Hardy Canyon is 1,000 feet. Elevation at the staging area is 265 feet. Our total elevation gain was approximately 1,000 feet. Total distance is 8.25 miles. Due to the sensitive nature of the wildlife habitat at Round Valley, dogs are not allowed in the park.

Trailhead Directions:

From Walnut Creek: From I-680, exit at Ygnacio Valley Road. Proceed eastbound towards Concord to Clayton Road (about 8 miles). Right turn onto Clayton road. Clayton Road becomes Marsh Creek Road in Clayton. Proceed east on Marsh Creek Road, past Deer Valley Road until you reach the Preserve Staging area on your right. The Staging area is located approximately 7.5 miles past the Marsh Creek Detention Facility, or about 20 minutes east of dowtown Clayton.

From Brentwood: Take Walnut Blvd south to Marsh Creek Road, turn right onto Marsh Creek Road. When Marsh Creek Road intersects with Camino Diablo Road, bear right to stay on Marsh Creek Road. You will reach the Preserve Staging Area on your left.

From Interstate 580 in Alameda County, exit at Vasco Road in Livermore and drive north on Vasco Road about 14 miles to the junction with Camino Diablo Road. Turn left onto Camino Diablo Road, drive about 3.5 miles, then continue straight/left onto Marsh Creek Road. Drive west on Marsh Creek Road about 1.5 miles, to the preserve entrance on the south (left) side of the road.
