Event Notes:
This is a paved canal trail hike that will take place rain or shine. I prefer the opposite direction than what the Trail Notes describes. We will hike north and go under Ygnacio Valley Rd through a tunnel into Lime Ridge. Great views from here. Bring those cameras. There will be lot's of ducks in the canal and bikers on the Trail. Services at Arbolado and Heather Farms. Park in the street at Arbolado or in the first parking lot on the left. We will meet at the Trail Crossing.

Trail Notes:

We'll begin by heading south on the Ygnacio Canal Trail, then head north using a section of the Briones to Mt Diablo Trail to meet up with the Contra Costa Canal Trail, leading us back to the Ygnacio Canal Trail. NOTE: About 200 yards of the Ygnacio Canal Trail may be closed at Heather Farms (Marchbanks Drive) due to a water pipeline project. If this is the case, use San Carlos Road (at the stop light) to continue thru Heather Farm Park to the Contra Costa Canal Trail. Turn right onto the trail and continue heading northeast, which will eventually lead back to our starting point. Total distance round-trip for this route is 7.87 miles.

Trailhead Directions:

From Hwy 680 North or Hwy 24 East, exit at Ygnacio Valley Road. At the bottom of the hill turn right onto Ygnacio at the light. Proceed thru Walnut Creek until you reach Oak Grove Road (gas station on right). Turn right onto Oak Grove Road.

From Hwy 680 South, take the Treat Blvd exit, head east on Treat (left at off ramp light, left at Treat Blvd light) until you reach Oak Grove Road (gas station on right). Turn right onto Oak Grove Road.

Go past the library. The 4th stop sign should be Arbolado Drive. Turn left at Arbolado Drive (stop sign). You'll pass the hiking trail just as you approach Arbolado Park. (There is a 3-way stop sign right after the trail crossing.) Park along the street. Meet at trail crossing.
