Event Notes:

The weather is warming up and summer is almost here. So let's go to Redwood Regional Park this Saturday for a spectacular hike. This 7 to 8 mile round trip loop has it all. Towering redwoods and douglas firs. Views of the San Francisco Bay and East Bay Hills. Microclimates varying from shady and cool breezes in the redwood forest to hot and sunny along the ridge.

We will be hiking at a leisurely pace and taking lots of breaks including a stop for lunch at Redwood Bowl. So if you are a fast hiker and don't like taking breaks, this hike is not for you. The elevation gain from the parking area to the highest point on the hike is 900 feet. It's actually a little more since the West Ridge Trail goes up and down in some places. For this reason, you should be in good shape. Total time to complete the hike should be around 4 hours, possibly more depending on the group.

Make sure to bring a liter of water and a non-perishable snack as well as a sun hat and sun block. There are drinking fountains and flesh toilets at the parking area and Redwood Bowl. Also, there are vault toilets and drinking fountains at other points along the way.

Parking is $5 per vehicle. We will meet at the Canyon Meadow Staging Area parking lot. This is not a dog friendly hike.

Trail Notes:

The West Loop in Redwood Regional Park has it all: Towering redwoods and douglas firs. Sweeping views of the San Francisco Bay and East Bay hills. A gurgling creek in winter and early spring. Different climates. Cool, shady and pleasant in Redwood Creek but hot and sunny on the ridge during the dry season.

Logistics: Round trip is between 7 to 8 miles. The elevation gain from the starting point in Redwood Creek to the highest point of the loop at the picnic tables in Redwood Bowl is 900 feet. The segment of the West Ridge Trail between Redwood Bowl and Skyline Gate goes up and down which adds some extra elevation gain.
