Event Notes:

This is a long hike - 13.1 miles in 75% sun / 25% shade. Because of the distance and some elevation gain - significant in areas - this hike should only be attempted by experienced hikers. Bring lots of water (at least 2 liters). We will stop for a quick snack at about mile 8 (Hampton Trail/Oursan Trail junction). The hike usually takes me 4 hours, but allow up to 6 hours if you are a slower hiker. Make sure you go to the correct staging area off of Bear Creek Road - Briones Reservoir Overlook. An EBMUD permit is required. Permits must be carried on the trails at all times since the Park Ranger patrols the trails and/or staging areas and will ask to see your permit. If you don't have a permit, you can go online and get a permit. The cost is minimal and you can print it out immediately. The staging area has a bathroom with a flush toilet. In addition, at the next staging area (Bear Creek - ~3.5 miles) there is an outhouse/port-a-potty. Once we proceed on the Oursan Trail, there will be no more facilities until we return to the Briones Reservoir Overlook staging area. We will leave the staging area at 9:00 a.m. SHARP. Since the staging area is easy to miss, I will be standing near the road. From Bear Creek Road (off of Camino Pablo) if you get to Happy Valley road, you've gone too far and will need to turn around.

Depending upon finishing times, some of us are going for pizza after the hike.
