Event Notes:

Meet at the end of Regency Drive in Clayton. Parking is free. Well take Donner Canyon Road to Meridian Ridge and Murchio Gap, then climb Eagle Peak, descending Eagle Peak Trail and returning back to Donner Canyon from there. This hike has everything, starting with a good climb up Donner Canyon and Meridian Ridge, followed by the craggy rock formations of Murchio Gap. Eagle Peak Trail is an exciting hogback, often only a few feet wide, with sharp drop-offs on each side. Eagle Peak is a rocky belvedere from which to admire the expanse of Contra Costas

Meridian Ridge is a steep, gravelly fire road. We'll hike from Donner Canyon Road to Meridian Ridge to Murchio Gap, then descend Eagle Peak Trail. Eagle Peak is 2369 Feet of elevation, and there are some rocky craggy areas on the trail. It's difficult in spots, but doable for hikers who regularly hike 6 or 7 miles. Estimated mileage: 7-8 miles.
