This hike is not for beginners as it is rated as moderate to difficult. We will be hiking 8.5-9 miles with 1800+ft. elevation gain. Hiking out Mitchell canyon fire road starts off with a very slight incline for the first 2 miles. We will then take a short break along deer flat creek just before the road starts a series of switch-backs as it climbs out of the canyon to deer flats at 3.5 miles. Will stop at the picnic tables at DEER FLATS. We will then proceed on and at the junction a lft onto MERIDIAN RIDGE RD. Continue to climb the fire road to MURCHIO GAP at 4.3 miles into the hike. We will break again, get our bearing and enjoy the views. from here we will make a decision as to go on the BACK CREEK TRAIL or to continue on the MERIDIAN RIDGE RD to MERIDIAN POINT TRAIL or to continue to DONNER CANYON RD, any of which will take us to BRUCE LEE ROAD to MURCHIO RD and back to where we started.
