Event Notes:

This is a long hike that Will and I are co-leading - 13.1 (give or take) miles in 50% sun/50% shade - that follows along the beautiful Briones Reservoir. We start out on the Bear Creek Trail and finish up on the Oursan Trail. Part of the trail will be on the Bear Creek Trail which does not allow dogs and the rangers frequently patrol the area. Be sure to meet at the correct staging area: Briones Reservoir Overlook Staging Area. If you get to Happy Valley Road off of Bear Creek Road, you've gone too far. The staging area is the first LEFT once you turn right onto Bear Creek Road (approximately 2 miles) from Highway 24 and Camino Pablo. Minimal elevation gain, but this hike is for experienced hikers only because of the length of the hike. We only stop for a couple of 5 minute breaks and about 10-15 minute lunch at mid-point. The Briones Reservoir Overlook Staging area requires the EBMUD permit. Each person with a permit is permitted to have 4 people on their permit. Permits must be carried on the holder of the permit since the Park Rangers sometimes patrol the trails and ask to see it. There is a bathroom at the trailhead, and a port-a-potty at the next staging area (about 3.5 miles). After that, there are no other facilities. Bring plenty of water since it may be hot. Please only attempt this hike if you are an experienced hiker because of the length of the hike. If in doubt, please don't attempt.
