Event Notes:

Briones Peak Loop Hike Hike Outline: Here's a hike to enjoy before your Super Bowl festivities begin. Briones Regional Park is the location for this six mile loop through rolling hills. The route extends one of my favorite training hikes that includes a fairly steep ascent to Briones Peak where we'll briefly stop and regroup. Most of the total elevation gain (1850 feet) gets done within the first two miles and at a steady pace it'll quickly get your attention. But the rewards are excellent views of central county and Mount Diablo. A light jacket could be useful as it can be breezy at the peak or along the ridge. Rain does not cancel the hike, but come prepared if it does rain. Trailhead Directions: Reliez Valley Trailhead is at the intersection of Reliez Valley Road and Gloria Terrace on the west side of the street. The trailhead has a small parking lot with room for only a few vehicles, but there is additional parking available on the street. Be careful, the entrance to the trailhead is small and easy to miss. There are no parking or access fees and no trailhead facilities. A regional park map is available at the trailhead. Use the trail map link to obtain specific Mapquest directions and travel times to the trailhead.

Trail Notes:

Briones Peak is located at the eastern edge of Briones Regional Park at 1,483 ft. The peak can be reached via several staging areas or trailheads. From the Reliez Valley trailhead (the most direct route) Briones Peak is an especially hilly and steep 2.01 mile hike.
