Park: Mt. Diablo

Eagle Peak is a grueling 2,369 foot hike covering about 6 to 7 miles. Heading out from the Mitchell Canyon Staging area, we will take Mitchell Rock trail on our way to Twin Peaks (1,733 ft) before ascending rapidly to Eagle Peak. This should take about 2 hours, so bring a lunch and plenty of liquids. We will continue from the peak to Murchio Gap and return by way of Back Creek Trail, completing the loop to the staging area. The total hike should take about 3-4 hours, timewise.
Precautions: This hike is very rocky and steep in some areas with 2000 foot drop offs, sometimes on both sides of the trail. Good balance, physical fitness and courage in the face of extreme heights are must-haves. The pay off is some of the most spectacular views that Mt. Diablo has to offer!
