Event Notes:

Table Tops and Orchards

We'll take it a little easy on a warm day for a hike in Briones starting at 9:30 am. Hiker's choice of a moderate 6 mile/1200' short hike or a moderate++ 8.5/1650' hike.

Starting at the Crow Picnic Area continue up Alhambra Creek Trail, right on Spengler #37. Left on No Name Trail atop the hill by the Lagoon. Contine straight on the No Name through a couple of gates continuing straight, always straight. At the end, right on Table Top Trail. At the top take a left to the overlook #73. Short hike will break here, long hike continues and breaks here later. Short hike continues through gate and straight on Briones Crest Trail, right on Old Briones Road #22, right on Spengler #24, retrace route back to cars with a left on Alhambra Creek #37.

The long hike continues past the lookout (we'll come back) on Table Top Trail #73, right on Briones Crest #56/#57 and back up the hill. At the junction up near the lookout #74, turn right and throught the gate to the lookout, now you may break. Then double back down Briones Crest, this time staying straight on Briones Crest Trail, right on Old Briones Road #22, left to stay on Old Briones Road #24 to the staging area. Find the trail off to the left of the parking area on the left side of the fence, Pine Tree Trail #25. Continue down the hill to junction of Toyon Canyon Trail, turn right on Pine Tree #27, then first right on Orchard #28. Follow Orchard, cross Briones Road #32, continuing to the parking area.

Please note: This group does not stay together on the hike instead relying on arrows put on the ground with flour to mark turns. You are encouraged to stay with others who are hiking your speed and you should also carry the trail route map (link above) either downloaded to your phone or in paper form.

Trail Notes:

Briones' 6,255 acres are home to many animals and birds, which forage on the grasslands or find shelter among the oaks and bays. You may see black-tailed deer, coyotes, squirrels, red-tailed hawks, turkey vultures, and, if you are lucky, other more reclusive creatures. There are gorgeous wildflower displays in season.
