NOTE DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME ENDS-FALL BACK!! You haven't driven out to Black Diamond in 7 months, it's time for a hike at9:30 am. Hiker's choice of a moderate 5.8 mile/1200' short hike or a challenging 8.2/1900' hike. Starting at the Upper Parking Lot at the end of the road, continue up Somersville, left on Chapparal Loop, over footbridge to Pittsburg Mine trail, right through gate onto Stewartville. Continue up Stewartville up and over the saddle through the gate and right to stay on Stewartville. Continue to the Stewartville Backpack Camp. The hikes diverge here with the short hike stopping for a break and continuing on Stewartville to left on Corcoran Mine. Left on Ridge Trail, right on Stewartville and retrace route back down Stewartville staying straight all the way back to Somersville, then right to the parking area.
The long hike continues right just past the backpack camp on Upper Oil Canyon. Climb all the way up to the park boundary, then right up to the power tower for a break. Return down, then right on Oil Canyon Trail. Follow down to the boundary and continue on Lower Oil Canyon. Continue straight on connector to Star Mine Trail, then left on Star Mine Trail. Right on Stewartville, then left on Corcoran Mine. Left on Ridge Trail, right on Stewartville and retrace route back down Stewartville staying straight all the way back to Somersville, then right to the parking area.Please note: This group does not stay together on the hike instead relying on arrows put on the ground with flour to mark turns. You are encouraged to stay with others who are hiking your speed and you should also carry the trail route map (link above) either downloaded to your phone or in paper form.

From Highway 4, take exit #26A. Turn right on Somersville Rd and head south 1.4 miles. Continue straight through the entrance gate on Somersville, do not make any turns, following it all the way into the park, about 1.2 miles. Continue past the lower parking area for 1 mile to the end of the road, parking on the right.
