Grand Vistas Hike


NOTE EARLIER START TIME!! Let's knock out a few more trails in Sunol Regional on a coolish day at9:00 am. A hiker's choice of a moderate++ 5.4 mile/1460' hike or an 8.2 mile/1900' challenging one.

We will gather near the vault toilets near the bridge at the creek. The hike starts on the bridge, right on Ohlone Wilderness Trail, left on Indian Joe Creek Trail (OT14). Right on Cave Rocks Road (SO24), left on Eagle View Road (SO25). The hikes split at the next junction. The short hike turns right down Eagle View Trail (SO27), left on Cave Rocks Road (SO26) to Cerro Este Road (SO33). Stop here for a break. Continue right down Cerro Este, right on Cerro Este at (OT18), right on McCorkle (OT17), right on Canyon View Trail (OT15). Follow back 1/2 mile and backtrack the way we started along the creek to the bridge and back over.

The long hike turns left on Eagle View Trail (SO27), right on Vista Grande Road (SO28) out and back to the gate. Turn right on Eagle View Trail (SO28) out and back to the road. Stop for a snack at the end. Return all the way down Eagle View Trail to Cave Rocks Road and rejoin the short hike. Left on Cave Rocks Road (SO26) to Cerro Este Road (SO33). Stop here for a break. Continue right down Cerro Este, right on Cerro Este at (OT18), right on McCorkle (OT17), right on Canyon View Trail (OT15). Follow back 1/2 mile and backtrack the way we started along the creek to the bridge and back over.

Please note: This group does not stay together on the hike instead relying on arrows put on the ground with flour to mark turns. You are encouraged to stay with others who are hiking your speed and you should also carry the trail route map (link below) either downloaded to your phone or in paper form.

Sunol Regional Wilderness, 1895 Geary Road, Sunol.

HWY 680 south, exit Calaveras Road/Highway 84. Turn left onto Calaveras Road and drive 4 miles to a left turn onto Geary Road, which leads directly into the park. After entry kiosk parking is immediately available on your left at either the Visitor Center or near the foot bridge.

Parking Fee: $5/seasonal/wkend/hol
Other Fees: $2 Ohlone permit/$2 per dog
