Event Notes:

San Pablo Reservoir and Kennedy Grove Potluck Picnic Hike

NOTE EARLIER START TIME!! Join us for a hike and our annual POTLUCK PICNIC afterwards. Hike starts at 9:00 am. A hiker's choice of a moderate 6.2/1100' short hike or a long 8.3/1700' challenging one. Help Steve cross Kennedy Grove off his list as we hike every trail in the park! Meet on the lawn area near the playground. We will have a potluck picnic open to all comers after the hike (around 12:30). Please go to the online sign up sheet to see what others are bringing by clicking here. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN FOLDING CHAIR OR BLANKET TO SIT ON!

We will start up Old San Pablo Road and Trail and continue following the Bay Area Ridge Trail into Kennedy Grove. We will take Laurel Loop, then a right to stay on Laurel Loop. (The long hikers will take a short detour straight onto Kennedy Creek Trail, then a hard left on an unnamed trail then double back to the Laurel Loop). We will continue around the boundary onto Lower Sea Foam, then right on Upper Sea Foam past the View Point. Turn right on Black Oak trail. (The long hike will make the next right on a short out and back to the fence). Continue straight onto Black Oak Loop. At the next junction all hikers will stop for a break. The short hikers will turn left and another left on Black Oak Loop, then straight onto Black Oak, straight onto Kennedy Creek, straight onto Laurel Loop and back to the parking area and then return the way we came on Old San Pablo Trail and Road.

After the break, the long hike will continue straight to trail's end, turn around and then keep right on Black Oak Loop. In order to do every trail you will need to do the short connector between the 2 loops (left up to the break spot, turn around and come back) and continue on Black Oak Loop to Black Oak Trail. Straight on Kennedy Creek, left on Lower Sea Foam, right at the junction and back toward Laurel Loop, then left on a side trail to the overflow parking area. Head up to the lawn area, do a counter-clockwise loop around the lawn then back the way we came in on Old San Pablo Trail and Road to the start. Clear as mud?

Please note: This group does not stay together on the hike instead relying on arrows put on the ground with flour to mark turns. You are encouraged to stay with others who are hiking your speed and you should also carry the trail route map (link above) either downloaded to your phone or in paper form.
